Turning Attitude Around...

Wow is it tough out there. People are talking about four dollar gas as if they just got an arrow stuck in their eyeball. It hurts. Credit card interest rates are killing folks. How about this: quit driving six miles to Target where you will charge another CD on your almost maxed out card. It cost you ten bucks for the CD which will end up costing 18 bucks when you finally pay off the card and you will save two bucks on gas which means the damn CD really costs twenty bucks. Feel better now?

Clothes cost a fortune. And your closet is too small to hold all you own. I went on a “shirt” diet this year after building a small shelf unit to store my shirts last December so I could get them out of those dresser drawers where I could only see the ones on top. When I put the shirts on the display shelves and found out I had many I haven’t worn in a long time…I made a vow to go through 2008 without buying a shirt. Not one new shirt. Judging by how many I have I must have saved a fortune by now…and I still haven’t worn every shirt I own yet this year. Wow, my attitude has changed about seeing some “old friends” in my shirt pile…and the money saved is sweet.

You want a better job. You want more income. You feel squeezed and that sinks your attitude. Nothing happens overnight, but stuff does happen and if you hate your job or your life right now and all you do is cry about it…my money bets that by Christmas you will not be fit to be around. SNAP OUT OF IT. You can start today chasing a new job, a new career move, or even starting your own company or income producing venture. It takes research (wow, you start learning new things), and it takes energy (beats being a couch potato watching reruns), and it makes things happen. You will see things differently in six months, and you may even decide what you do like about your current job!

Let’s review. It’s very simple. Your attitude sucks because “oh woe is me” we are all in trouble. And guess what…you can change everything you are complaining about and that will change your attitude. Stop belly-aching and go jog. Put down that sponge cake and lose a few calories. Give up the CD and turn on the free radio. We live in a place where you can radically change everything about yourself and no one can stop you…except yourself.

My attitude is getting better…because it’s only six more months before I can buy a new shirt!

Welcome

After 30+ years in business, I’ve decided that it’s time to share my hard knocks knowledge. Having worked in almost 200 bankruptcy cases and many other kinds of business failure situations, I have awarded myself a Ph.D. from what I refer to as the Herman School of Business. In this blog, you’ll read about starting a business, running a business, and, if the situation calls for it, selling a business; about being a business success and not a business failure. Welcome …
