The United States of denial...

I am amazed at how people in this country deny reality. It staggers me that day after day, year after year, individuals refuse to see the truth in their life or their business. This is quite a bit different from being confident that tomorrow will be better than today…this is like believing that the cash coming out of that slot in the ATM when you hit up your credit card for an advance comes from a “money fairy” inside the machine.

It’s like believing that even though you gobble down fast food your body will stay slim because you bought a running machine…and then you use it to hang your clothes on at night when you get undressed. It’s like a Union Leader squeezing seventy-three dollars an hour out of GM and Ford so workers can have more “dough”, only to realize they soon will have no job and therefore no “bread.” And that the management of GM and Ford think somehow borrowing even more money…without really changing spending habits…will lead them out of this mess instead of seeing that they will soon have no mess…because they will no longer have a company.

WAKE THE F’ UP PEOPLE.

Stocks are not crashing. House prices are not falling into the abyss. Your lifestyle is not suddenly going into the tank because they stripped that last credit card from you. Something called REALITY is just returning to all of us. Stocks are going to reflect the reality of what a company is worth in a world of real capital, not unlimited credit. Houses shouldn’t be so high priced that the only way you can afford one is to pay interest only for fifty years…crappola…who thought this would ever work? And your lifestyle is about where it should be…for what you make. You made it worse by living beyond your means and now you have to pay for it. You can take the Chinese Water Torture way out and struggle for years to come…or recognize your errors and sell everything out and start over. The bitter pill tastes awful but fixes you up faster. Ahhh, Reality. Always give me Reality over Fantasy.

With each day of struggle heading up the Author/Speaker/Consultant ladder going by…I am making progress because I live in the United States of Reality and do what it takes to make progress while many writers and speaker wannabees are now way behind me because they live in the United States of Denial.

Welcome

After 30+ years in business, I’ve decided that it’s time to share my hard knocks knowledge. Having worked in almost 200 bankruptcy cases and many other kinds of business failure situations, I have awarded myself a Ph.D. from what I refer to as the Herman School of Business. In this blog, you’ll read about starting a business, running a business, and, if the situation calls for it, selling a business; about being a business success and not a business failure. Welcome …
