The Sun Came Up Today...

The world didn’t end. But your wallet is being emptied. Retirement funds are being depleted, we have gone from bad credit practices to no more credit available, and those who were in charge are walking away scot free and rich beyond your wildest dreams.

The economy is completely driven by credit availability. Has the head of the SEC been fired? Has the Secretary of the Treasury been fired? Has one person been indicted, arrested, charged or even been discussed as responsible for this mess?

I love that some Congressman had the courage to vote this down. Even, if some did it for the wrong reasons. The power grab and the money waste would have sunk Americans not connected to Wall Street, while they got to keep every dime they “stole” during the era of bad loan practices.

So what. Enough already.

Stay tuned into the big world…vote the incumbents out in November…and start adjusting your practices to the new economic reality. You can’t survive on debt. End your personal debt. If you have debt and a car payment…sell your car…and buy an older model someone is desperate to unload for whatever cash you can muster. It will drive the same as the debt vehicle you now have…and cost zero monthly in payments.

Stop feeling sorry for your condition and start looking for opportunities to make your situation better. In the next twelve months you can find bargains on cars, houses, and save some of your spending as I have proven this year by my “buy no shirts” policy, we all have enough clothes already.

Some of you need to know how to use a stove and not just the microwave…cook a few meals instead of eating out.

You either cut costs, get another income source going, or go backwards…because most paychecks will shrink, not grow.

Yesterday I gave a talk in front of many new entrepreneurs seeking business with the government. I loved meeting the crowd…and they loved someone being upbeat at a time when people think the country is sunk. The world awaits the people who are working and not burying their heads in the sand.

I can see clearly now.

I’m getting tired from standing and clapping hard and loudly for this post. Amen brother Herman!

Herman, Glad you can see clearly now. However, I think most of America can not. As a marketing communications consultant for my entire adult life, it amazes me how poorly this “bailout/rescue plan” has been explained to us common folks on Main Street. How did we get here? Who’s to blame? How do we get out of this mess? Most importantly, what do I (meaning each and every American) do now? Establish a personal budget and hunker-down is a smart strategy. However, the “average Joe” has lived well beyond his means. Such a severe lifestyle change will be unmanageable for most. One month till Election Day with no demonstrable leadership on the ballot. Things are going to get quite interesting. Here comes the Sun — and I say it’s all right.

Welcome

After 30+ years in business, I’ve decided that it’s time to share my hard knocks knowledge. Having worked in almost 200 bankruptcy cases and many other kinds of business failure situations, I have awarded myself a Ph.D. from what I refer to as the Herman School of Business. In this blog, you’ll read about starting a business, running a business, and, if the situation calls for it, selling a business; about being a business success and not a business failure. Welcome …
