The Perfect Joint Venture "Storm"...

Some days I spend at colleges, like last week’s trip to Saint Louis University where I had a spectacular time. Thanks go out to Billy Heese, a bright guy who wanted me to speak there…and he made it happen. Behind the scene another superstar was at work…Joyce McCauley. These two students represent the best of the best at our Universities…and I can assure you there are more just like them at other schools around the country.

Other days I talk with older folks who may have lost their jobs, or were recently cut to shreds in the stock market collapse. Retirement monies have disappeared…at an age where the individual probably doesn’t have time to recover most of what was lost. In some cases these people are turning to starting or buying a small business for several reasons; they can’t get hired anywhere, they want to be in control, and they want to fulfill a dream.

I say this to the older folks with a few bucks and some wisdom…please form a joint-venture with a young upstart entrepreneur and you will increase your chances for success exponentially. Older folks lack the energy or drive to work 80 hour weeks…young people can thrive at those work levels. Young people understand the Internet better than most older people. Young people “network” on social sites much better than older people.

My seed being planted today in this blog posting is a simple one. It is intended to grow and demolish small business failure, it is intended to support starting a business, being an entrepreneur, and funding a small business in a safe reliable way. Trade knowledge and money for talent and labor. Start a business that attacks all groups as customers, not just young people or older people.

We need a name for this new kind of business start-up. I’ll work on that and you can submit your idea for a name.

Herman,
The two words that come to mind when I think of this topic are “Synergy” and “Reformation”...unfortunately, there is not a good way to merge those words in a nice-sounding way…like Skeptators. I’ll keep thinking on this one…

Welcome

After 30+ years in business, I’ve decided that it’s time to share my hard knocks knowledge. Having worked in almost 200 bankruptcy cases and many other kinds of business failure situations, I have awarded myself a Ph.D. from what I refer to as the Herman School of Business. In this blog, you’ll read about starting a business, running a business, and, if the situation calls for it, selling a business; about being a business success and not a business failure. Welcome …
