The Future Starts Today...
There is no way to overestimate the importance of today in America.
I voted twice for George W. Bush and as of today I would rate him easily as the worst President in my lifetime, and he ranks among the worst ever in Office in my opinion. Now I seldom get political in my blog posting but this is not a measure of my belief in Barack Obama, although I did vote for him…it is a measure of the historical significance of this country electing someone other than another white man to head the country.
Anyone can be the President is no longer a throw-away phrase. You can do anything you want in America is no longer just a few words used to make us think we are different from other countries.
Today Americans will cry with a sense of hope and a belief in this country that they haven’t had in recent years. The past two Presidents brought us stained dresses, blatant lies about having sex with an Intern, more blatant lies about starting a war that didn’t have to happen, and neither President watching what was really going on in this country. The government was sleeping as much as we as individuals were sleeping.
Barack Obama talks with the little people. He interacts as though he isn’t any better than any of us…and that is quite different from the recent past. This man expresses hope as if it were the air we breathe and it is infectious. When he takes the Oath of Office today and smiles that thousand watt smile there will be joy among millions of Americans. People of color have been allowed “into the club” and they are shocked in a disbelief that will disappear when Barack’s hand comes off of the Lincoln Bible.
We need this event. We need this man to be the President.
Whether or not Barack is good or bad down the road, and I believe he will be good…we are all getting a fresh start. Take advantage of it. Suck up this positive vibe coming off of this event and this moment in America and carry it with you for as long as you can. The spirit in America needs the boost and it also needs to be kept alive by each of us until we work our way through the mess we all have created.
America is a brilliant production of our forefathers. It is the best thing ever “Made in America” and we should embrace the genius of it. When we fall down in this country we always get back up and seem to go higher on the rebound effort. That is why I believe Barack Obama has a chance to do more for this country than any other single human being…and he seems to sense that and calmly accept it with a level of confidence I admire. As unbelievable as it seems Barack can put himself in the league of Abraham Lincoln not just because of his personality or his ability, but because the country is begging for him to be that special.
Let’s expect the best of what seems to be a pretty good man. And let’s be happy we are turning a corner and getting a fresh start.
The United States of America has never seemed this United.
