The Butthead Writer "Skeptator"...
The world tries to hold you back. Today we have another outstanding example of the “Skeptators” of the world. Every person on the planet who interacts with others runs into Skeptators. And my definition of this word I made up is that they are skeptical spectators who say negative things, believe in the worst for you, and constantly try to convince you of your imminent or recent failure.
Is it your spouse, your friend or business partner who tells you to stop wasting your time and money on what you believe? Is it fair for others to try to keep you from going for your dream, especially as your effort may have a cost to them they are unwilling to pay?
Can you imagine teeing up in a golf tournament with the sixty greatest players on this planet? And if you could actually make it into the Masters, the ultimate golf test…and in four rounds of golf, in front of millions of viewers you play those four rounds of golf without going over par on any round? And let’s make this almost more impossible than you could imagine…you start the last day of the tourney with only four players ahead of you. The only thing you have to do is beat the score of the four people ahead of you and do it by more strokes than they started the day ahead of you. So, you go out and actually do beat the last round score of all four people ahead of you, climbing into second place and finishing the premier golf tournament of the world in 5 strokes under par. What an accomplishment.
WOOD’S UNINSPIRED PLAY IS MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT.
These are the headline words of a writer in my local newspaper following the second place finish of one of my heroes in life…Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods has just done something amazing and during these four days one other player happened to post a lower score. But this butthead writer chooses to be a Skeptator and announce to the world that somehow Tiger was a failure. The headline completely ignored the great play of Trevor Immelman who won the golf tournament and deserved the prize. But no one knows who Trevor is, so the butthead writer puts Wood’s in the headline in a negative fashion much the same as all other Skeptators would.
Tiger Woods is a winner. And he will win another Masters. And Tiger is one of my heroes because he works harder than any other golfer alive in order to stay the best at his craft. And he is also one of my heroes because he won’t pay any attention to the negative writings of yet another Skeptator. For Tiger knows a secret about success that I also know. That being successful means filtering out the negative words of the ever present Skeptator and believing in yourself.
Thanks Tiger for another amazing accomplishment. And congratulations to Trevor Immelman for an even better performance this week than even the world’s greatest golfer. I will now email this posting to the butthead writer.
