It's Not A Straight Line...
Mapquest is great. Put in where you are and where you want to go and poof…directions are given to get you there. If you want to bake a cake just follow the directions on the side of the box. My waffles turn out beautifully…if I stick to the recipe. People always ask me how to turn their business around. Or how to make their life work better.
Now anyone willing to call themselves a teacher must accept the responsibility that goes with the notion that you must have knowledge to share with those you want to teach. Without question I believe that I know things many other people need to know.
So tell us Yoda…what do you know?
It’s not that a teacher feels all knowing but there is something to be said for the fact that a teacher without confidence may lack the drive to impart their knowledge. Ok…so let’s move on.
Business success is not a straight line. Ever. It is a jagged, volatile, irrational up and down zig zag pattern. Smoothing out the hills and valleys is actually the fun of the journey. Thinking you can see the end straight ahead is foolish…did you consider the worker who just quit? Did you remember that the taxes were due this quarter? Did you find a back-up supplier because your key manufacturer went under?
One way to stay ahead of your business is to get a “pilot’s view” of where you are and not just a ground level view looking ahead. Imagine standing on a fifty foot ladder and looking down on your business and the competition. You can even see the customer traffic flow going passed your business and coming up towards it. See where money is being spent…where roadblocks are…then climb back down the ladder and take the appropriate action.
People only looking on a flat plane will miss information they can see from above. If you are not “getting this” you better slow down your thinking because stuff happening right around you is being missed by your one sided view.
