Business Lesson Number 1

We live in the cage where the mice have to run pretty fast to keep the wheel turning. In a story Sunday night on 60 Minutes they said the Danes were the happiest people on earth. This is partly because they have low expectations and therefore are happy when anything good happens. Several students who had visited the United States said they would never raise their children here, because we don’t focus on family enough and are far too materialistic.

So, we expect more. I don’t view that as necessarily a bad thing. You see another wonderful thing about America is that you can actually achieve more than anywhere else on earth. If, you are willing to do the work.

Go back and read the first sentence again…about the mouse having to run faster here to keep the wheel turning. If you want to succeed in this environment you can. You can start from scratch and rise to the highest levels of success. If you are willing to do each step, skipping none of them, and are willing to make whatever sacrifices necessary to get there.

Business Lesson number 1 is a simple one. We live where anything is possible and by reading here daily and doing your homework elsewhere and applying the lessons learned you can become a success at whatever you desire. And truthfully whoever did the happiness study should have asked me how I felt, because I would rather raise my kids in America than anywhere else. You see, I can teach my kids to know the same important facets of life the Danes know, that family trumps money every time, but we have what the Danes lack…unlimited opportunity.

Welcome

After 30+ years in business, I’ve decided that it’s time to share my hard knocks knowledge. Having worked in almost 200 bankruptcy cases and many other kinds of business failure situations, I have awarded myself a Ph.D. from what I refer to as the Herman School of Business. In this blog, you’ll read about starting a business, running a business, and, if the situation calls for it, selling a business; about being a business success and not a business failure. Welcome …
