A Toast to Tim and Julie...
How many of you have a dream that just lingers out there…just out of your reach? Which of you has come up with a great idea and not followed through? When do you finally jump off the diving board and plunge into the water?
I get emails from readers with questions about their hopes, dreams and ideas. Most have spent a good deal of time and energy but they just can’t pull the trigger.
With permission from two of our readers, Tim and Julie, today I ask each of you to raise your glass and give cheers to our newest partners in the entrepreneurial world…for this past weekend they took over their new Bar and Grill in Tripoli, Wisconsin. And so my toast…”May the beer be cold and the burgers hot, may the cash flow be great and the pitfalls be not!” Well, you get the point.
Tim will keep working his job a few days a week, and Julie will help on the weekends. Tim’s Dad will step in to give a hand and the current owner will help them get off the ground in a positive manner. Julie first wrote to me about Tim’s plan to find and buy a place to leave his career behind and fulfill his dream of owning his first business. Tim spent months checking out the possibilities. He did his best to find just what he wanted, and then worked over the numbers again and again to see if he should indeed jump off that diving board.
Time learned a new word after reading some of my work and he now calls his friends “Skeptators” which is my word for those “Skeptical Spectators” who try to hold you back. Even Tim’s best friend tried to sway him away from taking the plunge. But with his Dad’s steady hand at the bar and Julie’s support this team is now enjoying the wonderful feeling of making a dream come true.

Good for Tim and Julie! I finally took my first baby steps. I inquired about a low cost service based franchise yesterday. It won’t make me rich but it will force me to make some goals and be a great educational process. And who knows what opportunities it may open for me.
